A Day at the Opera....
Resource: Interactive Hansel and Gretel Opera for Children
Description: This website gives the child the opportunity to watch Hansel and Gretel the opera. The website is interactive and allows the child to make choices about the stage, costumes and choreography as the opera progresses. The website draws the child's attention to the instruments used and musical concepts such as dynamics and texture. Via: http://creativekidseducationfoundation.org/kids/opera/base.htm Teaching Ideas: -Children could discuss the story of Hansel and Gretel and identify instruments that could be used to represent the different characters -Children could identify the dynamics and tempo used in the different sections of the opera and discuss the contrast -Children could compare their opera with the story of Hansel and Gretel - Children could compose a piece of music to represent the witch If I were to teach this lesson I would have taught the children what an opera is and introduced them to the different language needed before allowing them to explore the opera of Hansel and Gretel in pairs. I would ensure that each pair had their own computer and that each child had earphones so they could see and hear the opera. |
