The second powerpoint introduces children to simple Italian words and phrases they can use at home and in the classroom. Via: I made these powerpoints myself. Teaching Ideas: -Children could make a KWL chart as a class to find out what we know and would like to learn about Italy. -Children could compare Italy to Ireland focusing on the weather, food, customs and traditions -Children could learn some Italian phrases and words and take part in a simple conversation. -Children could take a virtual tour of the different landmarks in each city using street view in Google Maps -Children could make their own pizza and try different Italian foods such as parma ham, mozzarella, ciabatta and olive oil and olives -To revise children could take part in a table quiz about Italy If I were to teach this I would introduce the topic by creating a KWL chart about Italy and would teach the children a few simple phrases in Italian. I would ensure not to overload the children with too much information in a lesson. I would introduce them to simple Italian words and phrases over the course of the three weeks. For having an Italian food experience - making pizza and tasting different Italian foods, I would put the children into groups and revise our rules for group work. Curriculum Linkage: Geography: Identify the different cities on the map of Italy English: Read about Italian food, Life in Italy, Write a poem inspired by Italian food, Write instructions on how to make a pizza (procedural writing) Science: Food tests Music: Italian Music e.g. Vivaldi PE: Dance-the Tarantella |
