Artists of Italy: Michelangelo
The Resource: Powerpoint on Michelangelo Buonarrotti
Description: This powerpoint focuses on Michelangelo. In particular the powerpoint looks at some the Michelangelo's main artworks and important life events in his lifetime. Via: I made this powerpoint myself using information from google and http://makingartfun.com/htm/f-maf-art-library/michelangelo-biography.htm. Teaching Ideas: -Children should be encouraged to look up the artists at home and find out three fun facts about Michelangelo -Children could write a diary entry as Michelangelo -Children could do a project in groups on a famous Italian artist focusing on their life and famous artworks created -Children could create their own artwork inspired by one of Michelangelo's art works using a medium such as clay or paint -Children could draw a picture lying down under the table like Michelangelo did when he was painting the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel -Children could research other artists such as Lenoardo Da Vinci and learn about his inventions and mirror writing If I were to teach this topic it would be important to show the children different artworks that Michelangelo created and discuss his life. I feel it would be important to allow the children experience how Michelangelo created some of his masterpieces by allowing them to draw on their backs lying underneath their desks. I would have cushions for them, have the page sellotaped to the table for them and remind them if it is too uncomfortable that they can take the page off and sit at the table and draw normally. Curriculum Linkage: Geography: Where Michelangelo lived in Italy and where his works can be found today English: Comprehension on the Michelangelo, Diary or letter writing as Michelangelo Visual Arts: Create a piece inspired by Michelangelo's art works, Responding to and Reflecting on Art History: Project on Michelangelo or another Italian artist such as Da Vinci |
